South Sudanese citizens in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State are expecting their governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to unite the people and foster peace in the region.
They also expect the governor to bring peace in the areas still experiencing insecurity especially in Yei and along Juba -Yei road.
The citizens appealed for security stabilization in the areas of Central Equatoria region in order for the people in the camps to return home and embarked on agriculture.
Some of the women who spoke to our reporter said that they expect the governor to recognize and consider their participation in the transitional government of national unity.
Other citizens expressed gratitude to the governor for his leadership in the former Yei River state and now that he is the governor of the region they want to see that the rampant killing going on in the county is reduced.
“We want to thank our governor for the tremendous job he is doing to our people. But what is important is we want peace in the Central Equatoria region. We want our women to be protected from rape and other abuses,” they explained.
The citizens described governor Adil as the new dawn of peace and prosperity in the region and the country at large.
They commend the different communities and other foreign nationals living in Yei as sign that Yei is a very peaceful county. They encouraged other counties in the region to embrace diversity.
“We should stop fighting because it is what divides us and let’s embrace the spirit of togetherness to promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence,” one of the citizens lamented.
Last week the governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony made a courtesy visit to people of Yei for the first time since his appointment as governor of Central Equatoria State.
Emmanuel Adil was the governor of former Yei River State before its dissolution by the president last year. On his arrival to Yei Last Saturday, governor Adil was received by thousands of jubilant crowd at Yei air strip.
